‘Grow Speke’ Initiative

Groundwork Trust is a community charity which takes the approach of bringing people and the environment together with practical local action.

Grow Speke is an exciting new project for charity Groundwork that aims to transform a derelict wasteland in Liverpool into a thriving community garden. The aim of the project is to create a place where local communities can make new friends, learn new skills and improve their health and wellbeing.

To kick start the project our Jaguar Land Rover project team, supported by the supply chain engaged in a community project with JLR to deliver the first stage of the Grow Speke project. A series of Hugelkulturs and raised planters at the front of the site.

Kier, JLR staff and supply chain contractors spent a full week on site creating the first of the community areas, whilst Groundwork Trust hosted community volunteer sessions for a few hours every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and offered a tree planting workshop on the site. The works were undertaken using both new and old materials and reusing surplus material from the JLR site to form the under layers of the Hugelkulturs.

We would like to extend a massive thanks to all contributors who have made this a real success and will help kick start this amazing project for Groundworks Trust;
