Ground breaking ceremony – Woodside School, Sheffield

A ground breaking ceremony marked the beginning of a new school for the north of Sheffield and celebrated the start of construction work at the Astrea Academy at Woodside.

  

The campus will incorporate the existing Grade II Listed former Pye Bank School, which is currently being refurbished, complementing a new state of the art secondary and post 16 education building for children and young people aged two to nineteen. The school will have capacity for almost 1,500 pupils with the first intake starting in September 2018.

The event was attended by Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families at Sheffield City Council and Adam Goldstein, Executive Director of operations at Astrea Academy Trust. Adam Goldstein said: “We are absolutely delighted that works on the new build are beginning today – this is another exciting, important step towards the creation of Astrea Academy Sheffield. We are committed to ensuring that the new school becomes a beacon, helping transform this area of the city, providing an education that inspires beyond measure”.
