Concrete Core at Mount Street, Manchester

At the end of October, a milestone was achieved on our Mount Street site in Manchester City Centre when the new concrete core was completed.

It is 8 storeys high and was formed using a complex temporary works design, due to the new core having to tie into the existing structure at every level. This was a very technically challenging element of works which was carried out in the heart of the busy city centre.

To make this challenge even more difficult, the site had two cranes working concurrently. One crane was erecting the concrete core whilst the other crane erected the new steel frame on the existing roof.

The next milestone is the erection of the 7 storey steel frame which is designed to move and deflect as part of a controlled construction methodology using a temporary hydraulic jack.
