In a long awaited presentation, Bob Adams and Jo Howman attended The Whitechapel Centre on Friday 24th November to present the monies raised from the Kier Build UK 2020 Challenge. David Carter, Chief Executive of The Whitechapel Centre was on hand to welcome Kier, talk to us about the great work the centre does and receive the cheque.
As well as providing the donation of cash, we took along with us a donation box of non-perishable foods and a buffet evening meal which was made available to all of the service users.
The Whitechapel Centre was started in 1975 to meet the needs of homeless people in Liverpool. Currently the centre employs over 80 staff, has the support of over 40 fantastic volunteers, and is governed by a Board of Trustees.
Open 365 days a year providing services to rough sleepers, people living in temporary accommodation and those at risk of becoming homeless. The centre believes it is essential to empower and enable people to live independently. They work with some of the most vulnerable, isolated and lonely people in our community and deliver daily activity sessions to build confidence, skills and capability. Support workers prepare clients to take on a tenancy, deal with health issues or addictions, develop budgeting skills and move into suitable, good quality homes. Last year, they worked with 2,814 people to end or prevent their homelessness.
