Walking with the Wounded – £4,000 donation

On the 10th January, Kier proudly presented a cheque for £4,000 to Gary Lamb of Walking with the Wounded North West at Canada Street in Manchester. This is where DIY SOS took place in 2016 to renovate houses for war veterans. The monies were the outcome of our 2020 challenge in 2017.

Continuing to support the charity, Ian Pearson, Kieran Holohan, Ian Hodgkinson and Teresa Ogden joined WWTW, The Lord Mayor of Manchester, The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, the Officers Training Corps, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, Greater Manchester Police and other local businesses, on the Walking Home for Christmas campaign from The Cenotaph in Manchester to Canada Street. On arrival they were greeted by the RMC Pop Choir and singer song writer Jamie Lawson for a mini concert.

The Heron House project team’s support for the charity does not stop there. Ian specifically targeted the recruitment of a gateman to include veterans from the charity. This has resulted in a 52 year old (previously supported by WWTW) benefiting from the upskilling ‘First Steps’ programme, gaining health and safety training, a CSCS card and then joining the Heron House project last week.

Kier Construction Northern plan to support Walking with the Wounded further this year particularly with the resettlement for ex-forces personnel across other projects.
