Robert Winston Annexe – Sheffield Hallam University

On the 22nd January 2018, Sheffield Hallam University’s Robert Winston Annexe was successfully completed on time and with zero defects, despite challenges from adverse weather conditions delaying the lifting and placing of the modular classrooms, we still completed on time.

Carried out through our Scape Framework, the Robert Winston Annexe ( located at the University’s Collegiate Crescent Campus) is a two-storey annexe to the existing Robert Winston Building, creating 30 temporary modular units founded on pad and pile foundations. The annexe will provide four general purpose rooms with the capacity for 30 people, alongside an IT space for 40 people, together with a social learning space.

The annexe will address the pressure on teaching spaces caused by an increasing number of students, and will begin to bridge the gap between the university’s current position and future aspirations.

The project also achieved the University employment and skills targets set by Scape, engaging with over 900 students at career events and providing experience for two apprentices. In addition, training was provided for four members of staff, and delivered a Considerate Constructors score of 41.

This is the second Scape project undertaken for Sheffield Hallam University, with a third currently in the pipeline.
