Endeavour funding support

In Summer 2017, Graham Booth – Corporate Fundraising Manager for Endeavour – approached Donna Howard asking if Kier could support a funding application. Donna provided Graham with a letter of support for a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and I am pleased to announce that the charity has been successful in securing the funding to start the new project ‘Our Endeavour’. This new project will give the young people the opportunity to connect with the heritage of local natural and cultural spaces, and help to develop an understanding of the importance of these areas and how they are managed.

‘Our Endeavour’ has been designed in consultation with young people to help a new generation connect with the local environment and embed heritage skills into their learning.

On the project, the young people will have the chance to learn skills such as dry stone walling, fencing and woodland management, to help preserve these fantastic natural environments and pass them on to future generations. There will also be a focus on topics such as biodiversity, tourism and volunteering.

Cathedral Archer Project (CAP) – Christmas donations

Leading up to the Christmas period, teams at Astrea and Robert Winston worked together to provide much needed donations to Sheffield homeless charity, the Cathedral Archer Project.

Gareth Rushton at Robert Winston project won the SHE award and he decided that the reward could be put to good use by the charity so he donated the £200 prize, which we used to fund sleeping bags, and various toiletries that were needed at the charity.

The site team at Astrea also decided to get involved by purchasing food items that the charity needed, such as pasta, pot noodles, teas and coffee. We attended the charity on 21st December to donate the items.

Cathedral Archer Project (CAP) – cleaning contract at Astrea School
During the sleep out in May 2017, the charity gave Kier various information on how the charity supports the homeless.  One of the support mechanisms is a social enterprise cleaning company that supports clients from the charity get back in to employment, called ‘Just Works’.  Just Works aims to support people to overcome obstacles in their lives using a variety of techniques, tailored around individual needs. The programme involves a gradual exposure to work through engagement with local business partners.
Gary Reay (Project Manager for Astrea) was really impressed and was eager to see how we could become more involved with CAP and continue our support.   Gary then suggested that we give CAP the opportunity to tender the cleaning contract at Astrea.  Just Works have now priced cleaning contract and were successfully awarded the cleaning works package.  The Just Works team have started on site and are doing a fantastic job.
