Connah’s Quay – CSR Events

Work Experience

Harry Young joined the site at Connah’s Quay High School during his half term week for some work experience. He was able to shadow Rhys Rowland, the engineer employed by Jennings (our groundworks contractor), and Rachel Greenwood (Site Manager).

Harry got an insight into using an EDM and saw foundations and drainage installation, and the works our managers do in controlling the sites and subcontractors. Harry sits his GCSE’s this summer and has just received a conditional offer from Wigan and Leigh College to study for a BTEC diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.

Following his visit, he has also expressed an interest in returning to site to see the building progress.

F1 for Schools event

The project team have sponsored students from Connah Quay School to support their F1 for schools event.

This challenge provides students with the opportunity to develop key skills such as; communication, presenting and team working, which will form the foundation of their future, in whichever career path they choose. The processes the student teams will follow are the same as those a real Formula One team will follow, from creating their initial business plan, to designing, making and racing their car. They will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and will analyse their designs using CFD and drag calculation software. Finally, they raced their car on a 20m F1 in Schools racetrack to see who has designed and manufactured the fastest car and we are delighted to report that they are now through to the next stage. The team came in at second place and will now progress to the National Finals in March at Silverstone. Please click here http://www.f1inschools.co.uk/ for further information.
