Supply Chain Workshop at Coleg Cambria

Working closely with the CITB and North Wales Framework, the skill shortages that have been identified in Construction are now well known and we wanted to tackle these by bringing together our supply chain based in North Wales with training providers, job centres, apprentice experts and grant specialists.

We held the event on the 5th March 2018 at the Coleg Cambria and over 50 SME companies attended the interactive workshop, where they met with employment and training specialists so that they could identify resources to support existing staff and also learn how to obtain support to recruit new employees and apprentices. Information was also provided on the new North Wales Framework being launched. The day consisted of 15 minute workshops with each of the 7 specialists enabling an interactive discussion and fast fact finding for the subcontractors attending.

The workshop brought together experts in construction, training and development training. Advice and support on the CITB and apprenticeship levies was provided, as well as identification of grants available. Furthermore the Department of Work and Pensions explained how to recruit new staff and the support that they can provide including short term placements and work experience. We were able to provide a great insight into current and future projects and also explain Kier’s commitment to training and development.

The workshop was also part of a longer term strategy to forge stronger relationships with the North Wales supply chain and it will support our efforts to retain our place on the next NWCF Framework.

Feedback from the event has been very positive with delegates finding it informative and useful and helping them to meet their employment demands for their existing and future workloads.
