CSR Update – Yorkshire

Mock Interviews at Abbey Grange Academy

In February, following recent presentations by Enterprise Advisor Julie Steward and further supported by Donna Howard, we have offered work experience placements to people interested in gaining experience with Kier. All students were asked to provide a CV and details of any areas they were interested in, with four students taking up the opportunity. Olivia Thompson and Donna held mock interviews for all four students; they were all very impressive, and work placements have since been offered to the two of the students who really stood out.

We look forward to welcoming Rhianna and Ciara in July, who both have a keen interest in design and will be completing a week’s work experience!

School Engagement

We have continued to work closely with Hinde House school in Sheffield, this time supporting with CV workshops. This involved Donna working with Job Centre Plus In School Advisor, Rose Aizelwood, to deliver a workshop on CV writing to Year 10 students, highlighting the importance of a good CV and supporting them in writing their first drafts.

Sheffield College Awards

We were nominated for the Employer Enterprise Award at the Sheffield College Awards – this was for our work supporting students in Sheffield. The College said ‘The experience they will receive from Kier and other employers is invaluable to helping them make future decisions about their career’. Donna Howard attended the awards on the 21st March and we were delighted to win – well done to all involved!

College Engagement at St Albans

Project Manager, David Wilson and the site team at St Albans Place, have been very busy with college engagement, supporting students from both the Leeds College of Building and Keighley College, which is part of Leeds City College. The team have an ongoing activity programme which includes site visits and work shadow days to provide students with the experience needed to support their courses.

Endeavour Concrete Slab Donation

The team at Astrea Academy once again provided support for local charity Endeavour by providing a concrete slab which will be the base for the new outdoor teaching classroom. The classroom will provide much more teaching space to support the students using the charity. Materials and labour were provided with support from GRKC, who are a part of our supply chain.
