Walking with the Wounded – Gateman at Heron House

The Manchester office have supported Walking With The Wounded in the North West for a couple of years now. We recently helped an ex-serviceman turn his life around with employment as our gateman at Heron House in Manchester city centre.

Gary Lamb of WWTW said; “Keith was homeless and unemployed before he received support from WWTW’s North West team, located on Canada Street in Manchester. Our hub was able to provide him with temporary accommodation in the training house, which gave Keith some much needed time and stability. After just 8 weeks, Keith had secured his own private accommodation. Later, Keith returned to WWTW for employment support and the team assisted him with an application for a CSCS (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) card. Since then, Keith has successfully secured a full-time role with Kier Group. In addition to managing all deliveries and visitors to the site, he also arranges, organises and manages all site logistics.

It’s with thanks to companies like Kier’s generosity that we’re able to support ex-servicemen and women like Keith with their career transition from the military.”

Some glowing commendations are below;

Jon Rowe-Gidley, Senior Site Manager at Kier said; “Keith has been working for us for around 2 months. We employed him directly as part of our relationship and commitment to WWTW. He has demonstrated a great passion, enthusiasm and dedication to the work he is doing for us. He is a fundamental member of the team and is a pleasure to work with.”

Gary Lamb, WWTW North West Operations Manager said; “Keith excelled in gaining employment, even when he thought he was going to be left on the shelf. He’s a fantastic example that you don’t have to be twenty-one to land a job in the construction industry. Many thanks to Kier for supporting him.”
