Connah’s Quay – Apprenticeship and Careers Fair

Apprenticeship

Name: Sam Scott
High School: Castell Alun
Age: 17
Lives: Hope, Flintshire
Programme: Traineeship Construction Academy
Dates: 15/01/18 – 27/04/18
Progression: Level 2 Apprenticeship with Jennings Ltd

Sam started the Traineeship Construction Academy in January 2018 as it had been recommended by a friend. He left school in 2017 with one GCSE and he was very unfocused on a future career path. He started a full-time further education public services course but soon realised that he wasn’t a classroom learner.

The eight week programme was delivered from Coleg Cambria Deeside and supported by Kier. At the end of the programme Sam was interviewed by Andy Young, Project Manager, who was delighted to offer Sam a work placement on the Connah’s Quay High School project. With the support of the site team Sam went from strength to strength and within two weeks of being on-site he was offered a Level 2 Multi – Skilled construction apprentice with our subcontractor, Jennings Ltd.

Sam said: “The support I received while on the Traineeship Construction Academy has enabled me to find a career I enjoy and secure full time employment while continuing to get more qualifications. I now feel positive about my future, something I have not felt for quite some time.”

Careers Fair in Flintshire

On the 19th April 2018, we were delighted to attend on the Jobs, Skills and Training Event at Queensferry in Flintshire where we were able to provide details of our sites in Wales including Connah’s Quay, Rhyl and Bangor and to explain the different roles that construction can provide from school leaving to returning to work.

With over 600 delegates from North Wales attending it was great to provide career advice and routes into construction.
