Apprentice at FA Parklife

Adam Hughes is a local resident from Garston and he showed an interest construction concentrating on groundwork. He joined the Routeway programme in November 2017 organised by Blackburn House in Liverpool and completed an 11 week non-paid work placement with another contractor.

During this time he showed remarkable aptitude and keenness. Samantha Warren, Shared Apprentice Scheme Manager at Calico Group said; “I was amazed that he worked so hard for eleven weeks without pay and his face just lit up when describing his time on site.”

Kier were delighted to offer Adam a shared apprentice opportunity at our FA Parklife Project. This is a £17m project where we are creating twelve 3G football pitches based at four sites throughout the Liverpool region. The projects involve extensive ground work opportunities including ground preparation, off road parking, ground levelling and supporting the installation of three new 3G pitches at each site.

Adam stared work on Jericho Lane project in February and it didn’t take him long to make a positive impact. David Scarisbrick, Site Manager said: “Adam is working hard, mucking in and has a brilliant work ethic.”

Adam is combining his placement with studying at Fullagers Construction Skills Centre completing an Apprenticeship Construction Operations – General Construction NVQ 2 which he attends in block release of one week per month. Supporting Adam on site are HA Civils who are locally based in St Helen’s and they have been so impressed by Adam’s attitude they are not only supporting him through his apprenticeship but offering him a full time position. They said; “We have been delighted to offer the opportunity of a shared apprentice scheme and thrilled that Adam has secured a role with HA Civils.”
