Double Royal visit to Kier sites

The Queen and the Duchess of Sussex visited two Kier projects on their first royal engagement together on Thursday 14 June. They officially opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge built by our Kier Infrastructure teams and Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre, built by Kier Construction Northern.

Sean Jeffery, our Managing Director for Infrastructure Projects said: “It was fantastic to be part of the official opening celebrations of the Mersey Gateway and a proud moment for me to have the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex recognise our achievements in this huge project.

“Mersey Gateway is the UK’s largest infrastructure project outside London and we are proud to have been part of its construction alongside Samsung C&T Corporation and FCC Construcción as part of the Merseylink consortium. As part of the project we have also been able to create over 4,500 permanent direct and indirect jobs for the region, creating huge economic benefit.”

In Chester, the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex also officially opened the Chester Theatre Storyhouse.

Justin Williams, Operations Manager, said; “We are really proud of this project and the benefits it has had on the wider Chester and Cheshire West community. The project was designed and constructed within a true spirit of collaboration between all parties. All of those parties were present today and we all feel equally proud of our achievement. Seeing the building today with the Royal visitors attending it is evident what can be achieved when we all have one common goal; a fantastic building that the community enjoy and will use for many years.”
