Mersey Care Medium Secure Unit – Take Three Girls Event

Three women from Mersey Care’s medium secure unit new-build project were in the spotlight for a school careers showcase to coincide with International Women in Engineering Day.

Mersey Care strategic project manager Elaine Wilkinson (pictured centre) was joined by Kier Construction’s Jen McCaul, Design Manager (right) and Elle Doyle, Trainee Quantity Surveyor (left) at Deyes High School in Maghull.

Elaine talked to groups of girls from Years 8, 9 and 10 about her long and varied career within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. She explained how she started in admin and clerical before gaining project management experience and is currently helping bring the construction and delivery of our new Rowan View Hospital to fruition on the Maghull Health Park.

Jennifer and Elle spoke about their training and development, which has included work experience while completing formal professional qualifications to achieve their roles in the construction industry, traditionally seen as a male-orientated workplace. They also took the opportunity to share our Shaping Your World campaign with the students.

All three said they loved the fact that no day was the same and encouraged youngsters to look for work opportunities that suited their own talents.
