Have a Go Event – Manchester

We teamed up with the North West Construction Hub and their contractor partners on the 5th July to deliver a ‘Have a go’ event at the Power House in Moss Side. On the back of the Have a Go event delivered in North Manchester, NWCH and contractor partners were asked to replicate this in Central Manchester and South Manchester.

The Central Manchester event was a collaborative event with our contractors and their supply chain. The event took place on the 5th July 2018 at Power House in Moss Side where 100 primary and 80 high school students from schools across Central Manchester attended.
The event also offered a community drop in session giving young people and local residents the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at traditional trade activities such as plastering, bricklaying, joinery and decorating, whilst having a glimpse into digital construction at the BIM stall and using VR headsets.

STEM engagement activities such as snap circuits and engineering activities were also delivered to primary and secondary schools and Manchester City Council’s Work and Skills Team supported the event by having stalls to promote an array of careers in construction. Personality quizzes were also conducted to help pupils see what construction roles best suited them.

The day proved to be a huge success with some great feedback received from the schools who attended which will be taken into future events to ensure continuous improvement.
