Steel Signing Event at Rhyl Catholic School

Progress at Christ the Word Catholic School, which will house 420 pupils aged 3-11 and 500 pupils aged 11-16, has seen the steel frame of the building nearing completion.

A beam signing ceremony has been held with pupils and staff from Ysgol Mair primary school and Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School signing panels which will become part of the structure.

The new building, which will replace the two schools, is set to open in autumn 2019 and is funded in partnership by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools Programme.

We were appointed by the Council as the main contractor for the new school which will be delivered for the Diocese of Wrexham.

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, cabinet lead member for Education, Children and Young People, said: “It is great to see work progressing on this exciting project which will provide a first-class facility for faith-based education in Denbighshire”. Pupils and staff enjoyed the chance to get involved by holding the beam signing and they are looking forward to see the work progress over the coming months.

This investment is part of a £90m capital programme that has seen huge investment which will enable a better education environment for our children, a priority for us under our Corporate Plan.
