Official Opening of Q Floor at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital

On Thursday 27th September the Chairman of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Tony Pedder OBE, unveiled a plaque to formally open the Q Floor theatres at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital. Also in attendance were Kirsten Major (Interim Chief Executive) and Dr David Throssell (Medical Director of the Trust) along with the hospitals estates department, surgeons and support staff who now use the facility.

The project provided four new operating theatres, a recovery ward and staff and administration rooms within the live hospital. All of the surrounding wards and public areas remained in use throughout the works with an external hoist installed to service the site. Significant re-modelling and new installation to the roof plant area was also required to provide a new stand-alone facility.

The theatres on the sixteenth floor have been very well received as they are a significant improvement on what the existing facilities were. They are now at the cutting edge of what is facilities are currently available in any hospital in the UK. The theatres will provide an excellent facility for years to come benefiting both staff and patients alike.
