York Hospital Endoscopy Unit – progress on site

Work started on site at the end of January 2018 to build the new Endoscopy building over the top of the existing physiotherapy department at York Hospital. The site is land locked on three sides of the new building and is located on the primary route to the hospital’s main delivery department. Buildings joining onto the structure are the live Renal Dependency Department on one side and on the other side the live Neuroscience Department.

We have carried out substantial changes to the hospital’s car parking and vehicle routes in order to take possession of the road adjacent to the site during our project working hours, with the road through the site having to be reopened up at the end of every shift in order for the hospital’s longer vehicles to make deliveries in the evening.

We are now at the start of December and the envelope is progressing well, we are aiming to dismantle the envelope scaffolding before the Christmas break leaving only the loading bay to complete in the new year. Windows and louvres are currently being installed and the masonry is complete.

Internally, partition walls are 90% complete, with over half of them are now plastered. Mechanical and Electrical first fix works are nearing completion ready for wiring and lagging and the main plant installation has taken place. The installation of the lift has recently commenced. The project is planned to finish ahead of the contract completion date at the end of May 2019, subject to any major client changes.

The new endoscopy unit will be one of the UK’s biggest and most advanced units of its kind. It will enable the Trust to considerably increase the number of endoscopy procedures it delivers to accommodate significantly rising demand, while simultaneously improving the efficiency of the process and patient flow.
