CSR Update – Liverpool and Wales

Increase in Kier Ambassadors

In January we were delighted to invite the CITB into the Speke office to provide training to our eight new Kier Ambassadors. This was to boost the numbers from our training completed in December where six colleagues were trained. The training was interactive and provided practical examples of how to promote Kier Shaping Your World and also CITB Go Construct. Since this, the Ambassadors have been really busy with many schools focusing on interview skills and communication.

We also attended mock interviews at Blue Coat School to help prepare students for university interviews.

In February, Natalie McGuckin and Emma Tyler attended a “Females in Business and Industry” event at Bellerive Girls School with other female professionals including Barristers, Navy Captains and Engineers. The students asked a range of questions to determine the roles and were delighted to learn about so many opportunities available to them.

In March, Nick Orton and Natalie McGuckin were involved in “Speed interviews” at Liverpool College where students asked questions on careers in construction and explored the opportunities that different roles provide.

By the end of March we had supported over 20 different schools and colleges and met with over 4000 students in both the Liverpool region and North Wales

Diversity in the Supply Chain

Neil Carson organised a Meet the Buyer event in Knowsley on the 14th March where over 100 different companies attended. Presentations were given from Dodds (electrical contractor appointed on Shakespeare North) and Knowsley Chamber of Commerce. The event also included a workshop on procurement, apprentices, CSR and Sustainability.

Chester and North Wales Chamber of Commerce

Last July we joined the Young Chamber Programme run by West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce. The programme is designed to support schools and colleges to equip school leavers with skills and opportunities. We have been busy in March supporting three of these schools including The Bridge which is a pupil referral unit. Anna Gallagher and Will Moss provided pupils with practical career advice in construction and apprenticeships based in Northwich and Ellesmere Port.

We also attended, with other members of the chamber, an evening of presentations at Christleton High School.
