Dixons Academy – CCS visit and progress on site

Dixons Sixth Form has continued to move closer to completion over the last few months, with both the coach house and sports hall progressing. The project is currently ahead of programme and is due to hand over the next phase of the project (the remaining floors of the mill building) in January 2020 which is approximately 2 months ahead of programme.

The coach house was in an extremely poor state and had not been occupied for around 20 years. Pigeons had nested inside and there were some structural issues, alongside damage to the roof which was repaired using reclaimed slate. New floors, partition walls, and shower facilities, changing rooms and offices have also been added.

Construction of the sports hall has also begun following the filling and capping of the mine shaft discovered on site. The sports hall has a steel frame and will have a traditional stonework façade to match the mill and coach house.

In mid-November the site had their second Considerate Constructors visit for which they received a score of 45, a increase of 2 points since their first visit. Feedback given by the inspector included:

“Community social values continue to rise with all activities logged and monitored against KPI’s to show first class results. There is a first class team effort in addressing the next generation and the promotion of careers in construction and similarly looking after the current wave of apprentices is equally impressive.”
