In July we handed over Christ The Word School in Rhyl to Denbigshire County Council. The £21m Catholic school will create a new ‘all-through’ school and is funded in partnership by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government, through its 21st Century Schools and Education Capital Programme.
The new school, for the Diocese of Wrexham, replaces Ysgol Mair / St. Mary’s primary Catholic school and Blessed Edward Jones Catholic high school. Christ the Word is an English medium school for 420 full time pupils aged 3-11 years old and 500 pupils aged 11-16. The initial driver for change was the need to improve the teaching and learning facilities at both schools.
The 2-storey facility includes:
A chapel
Four-court sports hall
Main hall
Small hall
Drama studio
All-weather pitch
Specialist classrooms such as music, design technology, science etc
