Outwood Academy – start on site

Works have begun on the Outwood Academy project for the Outwood Grange Academies Trust under the DfE Schools Framework. This is the latest project in a number of educational facilities that have been successfully delivered by the team in the North East over the last couple of years.

The works comprise the wholescale internal refurbishment of the previous Inland Revenue Office building in Middlesbrough, to provide temporary accommodation for the Academy for a period of three years, whilst a new school is constructed.

Whilst only temporary accommodation, the Academy will be constructed to an exceptional standard with all of the normal facilities to support the curriculum including fully equipped resistant materials, food technology and science labs with music and drama and activity studios and all new kitchen and dining facilities.

This ‘fast track’ project commenced in September and we will hand over the ground floor prior by the end of the year to allow partial occupation in the January term for one year group. The handover of the remainder of the building is due at the end of January.

Katy Bradford, Chief Operating Officer for the Outwood Grange Academies Trust said:

“We are happy to be working with Kier on this project and we are grateful for the great work Kier continues to do in helping us provide our students with top of the class facilities.

At Outwood we believe in putting students first, raising standards and transforming lives. To do this we know that the infrastructure and facilities available to them in school are key. It is essential that our students have the resources available to them to fulfil their potential and keep them safe. With the help of Kier, I believe we are succeeding in doing this in Middlesbrough.”
