CSR Update – Scotland

Since we have returned from lockdown in June life is now different with the way we are adjusting to life during a pandemic and working with new ways of using technology. Below is an update on some of our activities over the last few months in Scotland.

August – Food Bank Donations

With the impact of the pandemic the foodbanks across the country are seeing such a high demand for their services that at Kier we held various collections on our projects Burrell Renaissance, Citizens Theatre, Golden Jubilee Hospital and HIP, the collections went towards feeding 50+ families for a week within Scotland.

September – Graduation for Project Search

I attended the virtual graduation of the Project Search students at Strathclyde University where over the last year I was a mentor for one of the students, Gary, which involved weekly email catch up, mock interviews and site visits to the Wolfson Building

October – Kicking On

We invited KickinOn, a mental health organisation that was created during the lockdown, to give a talk to help and support people whose mental health has suffered. The organisation is focused on supporting good mental health through exercise. David & Brian attended the Burrell Renaissance and Citizens Theatre projects to give a talk to our staff and supply chain and provide extra information on support agencies available.

November – Action for Children

We had Eric & Jordan from Action for Children complete a two work placement at the Burrell Renaissance project. Both had to look at changing their career path due to the pandemic so this gave them the opportunity to find out if construction was for them. Both carryied out general operative duties with Kier and FES. After the two weeks Eric was offered a general operative opportunity with our M&E subcontractor FES and Jordan has decided this is definatly the career path she wants to pursue. We wish them all the best for the future.
