Spen Valley Leisure Centre – Steel Signing Event

Work to build the new £15 million Spen Valley Leisure Centre is continuing at pace and last week Leader of Kirklees Council, Councillor Shabir Pandor, Councillor Graham Turner and Dawn Stephenson, Chair of Kirklees Active Leisure Board of Trustees, visited the site for a steel signing ceremony. The event marked another key milestone in the progress of the build with the completion of the steel frame.

Councillor Shabir Pandor, Leader of the Council, said: “I am delighted to see the progress that has been made in the building of the Spen Valley Leisure Centre. This is a major capital development project that will really transform the leisure offer for residents of all ages in the Spen Valley. It will also provide employment opportunities and economic benefit to north Kirklees.

We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of everyone in Kirklees and I hope this new centre will both inspire and motivate all local residents to make full use of the fantastic facilities.”

Set for completion in early 2022, the centre has been designed to be a modern and flexible activity hub for the whole community. The centre will be part of the wider Spenborough fitness complex, including the separate pavilion and Princess Mary athletics track.
