Donation to Sherwood Forest Hospital

The Kier Nottingham office is currently involved in a schedule of upgrading works that started in December 2019 at the Kings Mill Hospital for the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to the pandemic, Gavin Colton (Contracts Manager), tasked himself and the project team with raising funds for the hospital charities to hopefully benefit the patients and their families during their treatment at Kings Mill.

The hospital has been a key treatment centre for Covid-19 patients since the start of the pandemic with looking after up to 350 patients affected by this illness at its peak. It was during this time that it became apparent that funds were desperately needed to supply equipment and beds for the end of life care charity at the hospital to allow patients to be with their loved ones in a private area during their final hours of life.

Because of the pandemic, we are restricted in undertaking fundraising activities but the team decided to collect donations from key subcontractors involved with this project and also the nearby Kier project at Kirkby-In-Ashfield Leisure Centre. Kier matched the donations made by the subcontractors and a total of £625 was raised.

Gavin commented: “I’d personally like to thank all the subcontractors that got involved at Kings Mill and Kirkby for making donations to this tremendous cause at a hospital where I have witnessed first hand the care and professionalism of individuals, who just want to save lives and improve patients health during this very difficult period. Our gesture is small in the grand scheme of things but the gratitude that we received was somewhat overwhelming. We have tasked ourselves with another future fundraising venture for the hospital as restrictions hopefully start to lift.”
