International Women’s Day

Yesterday we celebrated International Women’s Day 2022 and below are some of the fantastic things held to celebrate this day:

‘Break the Bias’ with Women In Property Highlands & Islands.

Catherine Cope, Business Development Manager in our Scotland region took part in a webinar titled ‘Break the Bias’ with Women In Property Highlands & Islands.

The discussion was based on panel members sharing real stories and experiences to help inspire other women to do even more. The theme recognised the complexity and challenges in creating diversity and inclusion for all women.

The panel shared some of their personal journeys and career routes, their passions, the impact of strong women in their lives, and some of the challenges they’ve faced along the way.

Inspiring Females at Oldham College

We worked with other contractors to ensure the upmost safety and sensitivity would be shown to the ladies who attended from two local refuges. All risk assessments, safeguarding and feedback forms were signed off by Jigsaw Support whilst the college pulled together key tutors who could each teach a skill to aid the women once they had moved into their new home.

The workshop covered skills such as:

Unblocking a sink, fixing a broken toilet flush, how to use power tools safely, how to fit a washer to a tap, and how to fit a plug to an appliance.

North Chadderton School – Promoting Women in Construction

Zara Edmondson and Nicola Ridgeway attended a session with twelve female sixth form business students at North Chadderton School, promoting women in different organisations.

They took part in group discussions with the students where the topics surrounded influential females, who inspired us through our careers and how we measure success. Together they described their job roles, career journeys, what led them into construction, what they enjoy most about their jobs, and how they buck the trend of what the construction industry is – not all muddy boots!

Moss Side Leisure Centre – International Women’s Day

Yesterday three members of our staff attended an event at Moss Side Leisure Centre for International Women’s Day where ladies could attend a coffee drop-in at the library, have health checks that were pre-booked, browse the stalls on women’s health, and take a look at the promotion of jobs by ourselves and other companies.

The event was an open session for those in the local community and Kier was invited to talk to ladies that visit and use the leisure centre to promote the construction industry as a job possibility and to open minds to roles that are available.
