Kier to deliver £15m leisure centre in Yorkshire

Kier has been appointed by Kirklees Council to deliver a £15m leisure centre in Liversedge, West Yorkshire. The project has been procured through the YORbuild2 framework. Spen Valley Leisure Centre will be built on the site of the original Spenborough Pool and will include a two-storey, two-pool complex. It will have a double-height foyer which will lead to wet changing areas as well as multi-activity space. There will be a mezzanine with dry changing areas, a gym, exercise studios and spectator seating. The project is due to start on site in early 2020 and the new facility is due to open in the autumn of 2021. This will be followed by the demolition of the existing fitness suite, releasing further external works with final completion anticipated at the end of 2021. Kier appointed as preferred bidder to deliver £21m Bradford Markets scheme

Kier Regional Building Northern has been appointed by Bradford Council as the preferred bidder to deliver one of Bradford’s biggest regeneration projects, the £21m market redevelopment programme on Darley Street. The project has been procured through the YORbuild2 framework. The project will provide Bradford city centre with modern market facilities. It is part of a wider strategy to help support local trade and revitalise the area. It will include the demolition of a number of vacant stores which will be replaced with a new multi-storey food market building and a public square to connect Piccadilly and Darley Street, providing better links between the two. To accommodate the sloped site, the markets will be accessed on two ground floors. The lower ground floor will be accessed from the market square, and the upper ground floor can be accessed from Darley Street. The façade will have large glazed elements to encourage an open feel to the market and maximise visibility. The project will start on site in late spring 2020 and is due for completion in 2022. Dixons Sixth Form Academy – Contract Award

We are delighted to confirm our full appointment by the Department for Education (DFE) to design and construct a brand-new 880-place Sixth Form for Bradford based Dixons Academy. The £13.3m academy, located on Old Bowling Lane, consists of the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building, Douglas Coach House with the construction of a new build sports hall and associated external works. Contract Award : Limecroft SHALD

Kier has been appointed by Oldham Council to construct a new £4m supported housing scheme which will be the first-of-its-kind in the borough. The project will provide a purpose-built scheme for adults with learning disabilities, enabling people to have the opportunity to live as independently as possible. The development consists of 20, self-contained apartments specifically designed and created to provide a safe and homely environment that will offer 24-hour support 365 days a year via the councils Miocare service and Oldham Council / Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust integrated learning disability team. This innovative project has been developed by Oldham Council in partnership with the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to ensure that people with a range of needs don’t need to move out of the borough to find the care and accommodation they need. It will also ensure through a new integrated care approach that people with complex needs can be safely supported via a modern high-quality development. Funding for the development has been secured through a combination of means, including Homes England and NHS England to make the development possible. Construction has already commenced on site with the first residents scheduled to move in the Summer 2019. £29.5m Student Accommodation contract award

We are delighted to confirm that our Manchester office has been selected as preferred bidder for the construction of the Birley Fields Student Accommodation project for Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). This £29.5 million project will see the construction of three blocks of student accommodation that will be 16, 11 and 6 storeys high, providing 491 student beds in total. MMU is the largest campus based undergraduate university in the UK with a student population of 37,000. Birley Fields will increase the availability of quality student accommodation for the MMU student population. This will be our third project for MMU following the successful delivery of a Scape project and the good relationship we have built with them on our current 6 Great Marlborough Street project. The site is located in a prominent elevated city centre location just off Princess Parkway, providing another opportunity to further raise our profile in the city centre and in the student accommodation sector. This project means that we now have 1,345 student beds in various stages of project delivery across Northern. The project will consist of an in situ concrete frame, traditional brickwork facades, offsite manufactured bathroom pods and the full internal fit out inclusive of all furniture, fixtures and equipment. P21+ Mersey Care Mental Health Unit

Over the course of the last 4 years we have worked with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust to develop their outline business case and subsequent full business case. I am pleased to announce that the full business case received Treasury approval on Thursday 1st March 2018. We subsequently signed the main contract at the end of March 2018 for an agreed GMP of £48.33m, which makes it the largest single project that Kier Construction Northern have ever undertaken. Works are due to commence on site on the 23 April 2018 for a duration of 106 weeks with completion planned for June 2020. Yesterday we held a ground breaking ceremony to celebrate the start of works on site. The project is a joint venture with Kier M&E and consists of a 123 bed mental illness and learning disabilities medium secure facility split across eight wards with supporting accommodation, on the Maghull Health Park in Liverpool.
