Contract Award : Lelley Fields Bereavement Project

Kier Construction has been awarded a contract by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to build a new crematorium in Holderness. At a meeting on Tuesday, 12 October, the council’s cabinet gave approval to award the contract to Kier to deliver the new £9.6 million Lelley Fields Bereavement Project. The new state-of-the-art facility will be situated off Lelley Road, near Preston This is an exciting project involving the development of the first East Riding of Yorkshire Council-operated crematorium to offer people a fitting and sensitive place to commemorate their loved ones. The innovative design has been led by the council’s most experienced architect Paul Bird and a well-respected professional building design team in infrastructure and facilities. Planned features include two service halls, a new woodland, a memory walk and other areas for remembrance and celebration. The project will start on site in winter 2021 and is due to be completed in early 2023. Contract Award : Litherland High School

We are delighted to have been appointed by The Heath Family North West to deliver the £1.8m Litherland High School extension works. This latest award follows our successful completion of the £25m Litherland High School back in 2011. Procured through the SCAPE framework, the alterations and modifications to the existing high school will provide a through school for students aged between 3-18 with the neighbouring Litherland Moss Primary School being integrated into the high school. Works include altering the internal layout for early years and key stage one teaching and providing new external works. NHS Golden Jubilee : New Surgical Centre

We have been appointed by NHS Golden Jubilee to deliver a new £43m Surgical Centre at its Hospital in Clydebank and this latest award follows Kier’s successful completion of the Eye Centre for the Hospital which is supporting the hospital’s expansion programme. Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf visited the Hospital today to officially mark the start of this new project.    Procured through Frameworks Scotland 2, the Surgical Centre will provide a range of first-class facilities, including theatre suites, a surgical admissions and recovery unit (SARU), a surgical administration space, central sterilising and processing department facilities, endoscopy unit, orthopaedic amenities, outpatient and pre-operative spaces, as well as staff wellbeing spaces. When complete, this building will support the hospital to provide over 9,400 new outpatient consultations, more than 4,400 pre-operative assessments and over 13,900 other procedures. Kier will utilise modern methods of construction (MMC) throughout the build, including a hybrid pre-cast concrete frame, the envelope of the building being pre-cast with windows and brickwork completed off site. The project is due to be complete by June 2023 and as part of Kier’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy in the areas in which it builds, at least 65% of its supply chain will come from a 30-mile radius of the Hospital. Ness Castle Primary School – start on site

Ness Castle Primary School is a £15m project in Inverness and we are delighted to confirm that works have begun on site recently. The project was secured through the Scottish Procurement Alliance framework for The Highland Council. The new school is set to be one of the largest in the Highlands and will be constructed in two phases, the first stage will provide 12 classrooms and three playrooms for nursery children. The project is due to be complete by autumn 2022 and as part of our commitment to leaving a lasting legacy in the areas in which it builds Kier will provide a range of opportunities to the local community including at least five new apprenticeships, 13 work placements, ten new job opportunities and career talks at schools within a close radius of the project. Contract Award – Sunningdale SEN School

We are delighted to have been appointed by Sunderland City Council to create a new £12.5m special educational needs (SEN) school for disabled children. The project has been procured through the North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO) framework. The 4000m2 new-build school is set to replace a current facility that is at the end of its life. Construction of therapy provisions for pupils will range from rebound therapy, hydrotherapy pool, sensory facilities, soft play and each class will have a storage area for mobility equipment. Informal play and grass playing fields will also be provided across the wider site, alongside a wetlands area, nature trail and habitat area. When the school is completed the site will offer around 56 regular parking spaces and four accessible bays for staff and visitors, along with electric charging bays for four vehicles. Meanwhile, cycle-friendly facilities will also be incorporated as part of the development, including secure storage shelters and changing facilities with showers to encourage use of sustainable commuting. The project will start on site in late spring and is due to be completed in the summer of 2022. Paisley Museum Expansion

We are delighted to have been confirmed as the Main Contractor for the £42m Paisley Museum expansion with construction expected to begin in the early summer after Renfrewshire council rubber-stamped our appointment. The contract is worth £23m to Kier and the final negotiations will now take place with a view to formally appointing us next month. The overhaul, which has been designed by Amanda Levete’s practice, was approved by council planners in October 2019. It will allow the museum to more than double the number of objects on display to 1,200 and attract an expected 128,000 visitors each year when its doors open. Improvement work will include a new entrance courtyard and entranceway, along with a new west wing, outdoor garden space and an interactive weaving studio. The museum is expected to re-open in 2022. Originally opened in 1871, it was designed by Glasgow architect John Honeyman.
