We have recently been appointed by Stockton Borough Council to deliver a new £7m teaching block to Egglescliffe School in Stockton-on-Tees. The project has been procured through the North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO) framework. The works comprise the construction of a new standalone 3,800m2 three-storey secondary education facility to expand the provision for the existing Egglescliffe School. New facilities to be provided include classrooms, music rooms, IT rooms, group rooms, a dining hall and kitchen, and staff facilities. The school will remain occupied and operational throughout the construction phase. Works started on site at the end of January and a ground breaking ceremony was held on Friday to celebrate this. Completion of the school is due in early 2023. Dan Doherty, regional director at Kier Regional Building North & Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this scheme for Stockton Borough Council. This appointment further reinforces our position in providing first-class educational facilities in the North East of England following the successful handover of Ponteland School and Leisure Centre in 2021.”  Read more from the council...

Charitable Works at Mintlaw Village Hall

As part of our commitments to corporate social responsibility on the Housing Improvement Programme for Aberdeenshire City Council through our four year framework, we have carried out a refurbishment to the toilet area at a local village hall in Mintlaw. The works comprised upgrading the male and female toilets, replacement of all sanitaryware (including wet wall panelling where required), decoration of all walls and woodwork and replacement flooring throughout. Sunningdale SEND School – Steel Signing Event

Our £13.3m Sunningdale SEND School is taking shape with the steel frame starting to be erected. To mark this project milestone, a steel signing event has recently taken place with pupils, staff and guests making their mark on one of the building’s framework girders. Sunningdale is a school for children with severe learning and physical difficulties, designed for 120 pupils and to have provision for 16 nursery places. The new Sunningdale school has total floor space equivalent to around two football pitches, bigger class rooms, extra hall and therapy provisions including rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, light and sensory facilities and soft play. Every class will have a storage area for the mobility equipment that may be needed for the pupils with physical disabilities. The project replaces outdated facilities at the school’s old site in Springwell and is due to open for the next academic year in September 2022. Sunderland City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills, Councillor Louise Farthing said: “I think we can all agree that children and students deserve the very best education and the very best facilities. Sunningdale looks after some of the city’s most vulnerable young people. These are children who absolutely deserve this investment as it will allow them to enjoy a stimulating environment that is built to meet their needs. There is exceptional care and support from everyone at the school and the new building and all its facilities will ensure that pupils are supported with the very best. It’s a great honour to be here today making our mark, quite literally, as we sign the steel and look to Sunningdale’s opening...

Raigmore Hospital – Calum Mackie

When Raigmore Hospital announced the lift replacement programme in May of this year they were contacted by the mum of 12 year old Calum Mackie. Calum is quite the lift enthusiast and had a few questions about the replacement programme that his mum hoped they could answer for him. Jump forward five months and Calum, along with his mum Lucy, were invited in to see the first refurbished lift in action. Calum got the opportunity to quiz the hospitals Estates Team, ourselves and Kone about the refurbishment and was also asked to take the new lift on its maiden journey. A representative from the hospital said: “The Estates Team, Kier and Kone went above and beyond to make Calum’s day. Not only were all his questions answered, although to be fair there was not much he did not know, but the teams at Kier and Kone also created a memento for Calum turning one of the old lift panels into a light and games console for him to take home.” Lucy Mackie said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for what they did for Calum. He was delighted with the visit. Turning the panel into a console for him was beyond anything we could have ever imagined and certainly wasn’t expected. I am incredibly thankful to...
