BIM presentation to Year 6 students at St Cuthberts

In June 2019, Dave Parr, Colin Bedlington and Rob Toon visited the existing St Cuthbert’s Primary School in Liverpool to meet the Year 6 pupils and show them how we use digital technology in construction, in particular on their new school that Kier are currently delivering on site.

As part of the session, the Kier team gave a presentation to around thirty Year 6 pupils and this included a number of CGI images of their new school and engaging with the pupils about the various careers in construction and how the school is built.

The pupils were then split into 3 groups, with each group having the opportunity to use the Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to move around their new school using the model; navigating the model on a PC to visit different areas of the school, such as the new classrooms, hall and staff room; reviewing the data captured from the Matterport camera, which we used the scan their existing school hall and the review of the time lapse video that has captured the work on site to date.
