Rickshaw donation to Kirklees College

As part of the 2020 Challenge, the Yorkshire team came up with the idea to purchase a rickshaw to complete part of the challenge. With this in mind, Sarah Topping scoured eBay for something we could and local pick up to our region. One was eventually sourced and Donna Howard came up with the idea to ask the Engineering students at Kirklees College if they could assist in the refurbishment of the rickshaw.

As you can see from the pictures this was a mammoth task, which the students took on wholeheartedly! Three weeks later, with supervision from their tutors, the rickshaw was completely rebuilt and ready for the Yorkshire leg of the 2020 Challenge!

The rickshaw was used to travel from Rotherham Hospital to Hallamshire Hospital, and from there to the Cathedral Archer Project.

We have now donated the rickshaw back to the college and it sits in their reception area, promoting the collaboration between Kier and the college, and the names of the students who refurbished the rickshaw.

A quote from Andrew Smith, Motor Vehicle Lecturer at the college;

“ We were pleased to be asked to take part in this worthwhile cause with Kier. It posed quite a challenge for all at the Engineering Centre including students and staff. All areas were involved including motor vehicle, fabrication and manufacturing which enabled team work and communication to ensure the project was delivered on time.”
