Guest Lecture – Liverpool John Moores University

On the 2nd November Dane Harrop, Lead Senior Design Manager in Liverpool delivered a guest lecture to students of LJMU University. The audience of 30 students were a mixed cohort currently studying Building Surveying and Architectural Technology. The guest lecture titled ‘Project Management and Professional Practice was requested as part of the project management module.

The brief given was to provide a talk about pre-construction, construction and handover from a design/contract and production perspective and discussion about the role of a Project Manager throughout the design stages. Dane used Storyhouse Theatre in Chester as his case study and took the students through the processes of pre-construction including surveys, consultations, stakeholder engagement and awards, as well as design concept, logistics and project contract.

This guest lecture was one of a number Kier will be delivering at the University, throughout the 2017 / 2018 academic year, with future subjects planned to include ‘Construction Site Management’ and ‘BIM in Practice’. The guest lectures are just one element of a comprehensive engagement programme that the Liverpool office supports at LJMU.
