Completion of The Bemrose School

At the end of last year, we handed over the completed Bemrose School to the Department for Education after being on-site for over 3 years.

The project involved the construction of a new teaching building and complete refurbishment of the locally listed school, originally constructed between 1927 and 1930. The project was phased to allow the school to continue operating throughout the works and the sequence of works was:

  • Phase 1: Construction of a new ICT and Science Block, enabling M&E works (refurbishment of the existing plant room, replacement of boilers, and linking into the new building).
  • Phase 2: Refurbishment of science labs, main classrooms, and admin area.
  • Phase 3: Refurbishment of reception, main hall, library, teaching areas and SEND rooms.
  • Phase 4: Refurbishment of staff rooms, gym, and changing rooms.
  • Phase 5: External works and reinstatement of the sports pitch.

Neil Wilkinson, Executive Headteacher of The Bemrose School said: “Can I start by thanking all involved in this email and wider for all of the work that has gone into this and the impact this will have on pupils and staffs lives and ultimately education. To take an ageing 90 year old building and site and turn it into a centre of excellence without damaging the heritage of the building is to be admired. Yours, and others skills have brought this to life and a reality, and you should all feel proud.”
