Astrea Academy – steel signing event

Parents, pupils and staff of the new Astrea Academy in Sheffield signed the steel frame of the building at an event on the 17th May 2018. The event allowed the new pupils with the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on the new school.

The new building, together with a refurbishment of the Grade II listed former Pye Bank School, will provide accommodation for almost 1500 children and young people.

Kim Walton, Principal of Astrea Academy said; “We have been overwhelmed by the exceptionally positive response from pupils, parents and members of the community about the new academy. This event encapsulates all we want for our children; to be truly part of the journey of their education, the development of this building and its place within the community.”

Councillor Jackie Drayton, cabinet member for children and families at Sheffield City Council said; “It is great to see how excited the students and families are about being the schools first pupils in September. Now that the building works are taking shape we can really start to see what a brilliant asset this school will be to the community. Working together with Kier Construction, and the school’s sponsor, Astrea Academy Trust, we have a wonderful opportunity to make sure all our children and young people realise their full potential.”
