Completion of Lecture Theatre at University of Aberdeen

We have recently handed over the new Lecture Theatre at the Old Kings College Campus at the University of Aberdeen.

The £1.7m project was delivered through the Scape Minor Works framework, works comprised significant structural alteration and refurbishment in the four raked lecture theatres (over two floors) in the South Wing of King’s Quad at Old Aberdeen Campus.

The proposal involved reorientation of the spaces to form two large international standard teaching spaces for the Business School. The new layout created enhanced accessibility, including a passenger/evacuation lift to the lecture theatres, which will service the East Wing also. The property is a listed building and the works were subject to Listed Building Consent and we discovered from archive drawings the rooms have been altered over several generations.

The refurbished building is being used mainly for conducting lectures whilst certain smaller rooms are being used for academic personnel offices. The local economy and community were supported through mainly a local supply chain with 70% of the overall spend being achieved within twenty miles of the site and where feasible a local labour force was utilised with 86% of operatives living within twenty miles of the site. The project also won a bronze CCS award which is a great achievement for a project of this value.
