Contract Award – Kaplan, Liverpool

Kier, a leading property, residential, construction and services group, is delivering a new facility for Liverpool International College in a £28m project for Kaplan International.

Kier will deliver a 47,000sq ft, 13-storey, 259-bed student accommodation block and a three-storey college building for up to 900 students for the college, which will be partnered with University of Liverpool.

The scheme, due to open in September 2019, will be a flagship development in Liverpool Knowledge Quarter’s Paddington Village, a £1 billion, 450-acre urban innovation district that will be home to some of the world’s most influential players in science, health, technology, education, music and the creative and performing arts. It marks Kier’s second project in the area, building on the success of its recently completed Sensor City project for Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool.

John O’Callaghan, Kier Construction Northern managing director, said: “We’re thrilled to be delivering this exciting scheme, which will provide important facilities for students in the heart of Liverpool.

“We’re looking forward to working with Kaplan International, using our team’s experience and expertise in similar projects to deliver a quality, high-profile project to be proud of.”
The project adds to Kier’s presence in Liverpool, where the company employs over 130 people. As well as Sensor city, Kier is responsible for a number of key projects on the Mayor’s Liverpool Schools programme.

It also builds on Kier’s wider portfolio of education projects across the North. The company was recently awarded a £28m contract to deliver student accommodation in Leeds and its 329-bed student accommodation scheme in Newcastle is nearing completion.
